Life’s treacherous roads are filled with different twists and turns that can make our journeys almost unbearable at times, what keeps us going is the discipline we have acquired through time.
There is this popular saying that ‘Tough times never last but tough people do’; what separates tough people from others with self-discipline. The truth is that life is designed to defeat the weak, it is not fair, but that is how it is. Life’s treacherous roads are filled with different twists and turns that can make our journeys almost unbearable at times, what keeps us going is the discipline we have acquired through time.
The power of self-discipline
What self-discipline does is to help you acquire toughness ‘within’, so much that no matter how tough you find life, what you have ‘within’ you can hold you through. Tough times are really the test of how tough you are; it doesn’t matter how tough you look or how assured you sound when talking, it is tough times that proof your self-discipline.
Self-disciplined people have a unique way of dealing with hard times, they don’t seem bothered by it, they don’t look worried or depressed and it is as if dealing with hard times is just natural; you see them going through almost effortlessly; sometimes you want to ask yourself if they are normal! How do they do this? They know it will come; they live their lives as if they are preparing for it, they always see it coming, they don’t struggle with it and they always overcome it.
The problem is not how tough times are, it is how you handle it. Tough times don’t reduce people; it is weak people who are bowed by tough times. Life is not a bed of roses, it has never been and it will never be, you will need to face that simple reality.
In love with hard times
I actually love tough times; they help me to bring out the best in me. Hardships will help you to see things differently, it will help you to improvise and improve yourself, and it has a way of keeping you on your toes. If you embrace the power of tough times, you will be a better person.
Hardships help you to combat mediocrity and complacency. Success always comes with the potential to make you complacent and reckless but tough times have a way of helping you to keep reinventing yourself until you get to a meaningful and productive end.
Patience and perseverance
The two most potent character traits of people who will power up in the time of hardship are perseverance and patience. The combination of these two will help you to stay focused and productive even when you are not seeing immediate results. I see these two as pillars that will help you hold your ground when the storming tides of life come rushing at you and when life deals you any of its really unnerving blows.
Foundation of original vision
In the days of hardship, the real foundation on which you will stand is original vision. This helps you to produce strength from inside you; it is what will produce the passion that will power you through. If you have a true dream, hard times are the best tests! Hard time is not a cue for you to give up, it is rather a test of how much you believe in what you are doing. Lift up your head, go hard and fast, stand up from where you are and stand your ground, the future is in your hands.
